Baby it's luke warm outside

Hello.
Hello.

It's been almost 80 and 30 this week. What is that about? It's about amazing things. It's also about a certain layering skill that I currently do not possess.

Sunny?
Yes.

Above 40?
Yes.

Flip Flops it is.

Maybe I am in the right place.

I haven't quite mastered how important the daily weather report actually is. That, and I've been crying during the weather because all of the weather reporter are unknown to me. (I miss you Tom Skilling!) Who thought that would get me? The news reporters? I've been in Illinois almost all my life and that is the tearjerker.

Welp, it's a really good thing that the news is on an hour later and I can barely keep my eyes open long enough to hear about the oddities that are going on around my new town. And I say oddities because as  much as I thought I knew the area because I visited as a kid (and beyond) I really have no idea where anything is and what anything is about. As a matter of fact I'm going to call myself a tourist because even though I'd visit a thousand times....yes....all of these...dot dot dot...s...matter...I have no idea where I am or where I'm going.

I'm in Goose Creek. Sounds like Goose Crack or like the cutest little country town you ever did hear of. But it's not. Most Charleston suburbs resemble the Chicago suburb Villa Park driving down Roosevelt road and looking at all of the strange strip malls (with the new development popping up here and again just to shake things up).

They don't have deep dish here but they do have BBQ. You know what else they have here? Terrible drivers, some of the worst I've ever seen. But they aren't angry about being awful, they just don't know how to merge! And there's retail workers...they are so happy! I'm suspicious. It's true though. I've often been told to "drive careful!" and to "be blessed" just for buying a card. That type of interaction was extremely rare in Chicago.

This hasn't been the easiest move. I'm juggling a bunch right now trying to get everyone situated and in the middle of the holidays to boot. It's funny, I'm really trying to focus on what's best for me and what will keep me sane and I'm finding that some of the same people telling me to do what's best for me are the same people pulling.

There is no winning when moving with so many variables. I've got two kids and a life to transplant.

Good night Eastern Standard Time!
